Sepertinya hujan meteor Perseid harus bisa mengalahkan cahaya bulan yang terang, agar kita bisa melihatnya dengan jelas tahun ini.

Dari tempat manapun di dunia, kita bisa melihat lebih dari 80 meteor per jam melintasi langit pada waktu tertentu, yaitu ketika cahaya silau bulan mulai melemah–Rabu menjelang tengan malam sampai Kamis subuh. Kondisi awan dan pencahayaan sekitar juga berpengaruh.

“Pertunjukan langit Perseid selalu menjadi hujan meteor tahunan terbaik,” kata Bill Cooke, Kepala Meteoroid Environments Office NASA di Alabama.

Hujan meteor Perseid akan muncul di arah timur laut, dekat rasi bintang Perseus–itulah mengapa namanya Perseid karena memang diambil dari nama rasi tersebut. Namun setelah tengah malam, Perseus akan naik lebih tinggi di langit, sehingga meteor dapat dilihat dari arah mana saja.

Tips Melihat Hujan Meteor Perseid

• Pergilah ke suatu tempat yang jauh dari cahaya perkotaan. Misal: bukit atau gunung.
• Posisikan diri Anda membelakangi perkotaan.
• Usahakan pandangan Anda jangan terhalang oleh benda lain. Misal: gedung atau pohon yang besar.
• Gunakan mata telanjang. Karena penggunaan teleskop justru akan mengganggu observasi Anda.

• Lihatlah titik yang jauh dari bulan. Karena cahaya bulan akan mengganggu.
